The Link-Easy Aerospace’s Satellite Separation Mechanism (SSM series) is a four-point microsatellite launch adapter, suitable for a wide range of satellite configurations and weights (30~150kg). Four separation nuts (Model: SBN-8KN-S-BM, SBN-15KN-S-BM, and SBN-25KN-BM) are used in the separation mechanism to achieve the lock and release function. The preload of single separation nut is 8~15kN, which ensures high rigidity and reliable lock; Four separation springs are used to push the satellite away synchronous.
Compared with the conventional explosive bolt based four-point separation mechanism or clamp-band separation mechanism, the SSM separation mechanism shows the advantages of low shock, reusability, simple mechanical interface, easy to transportation and operation.
Key features of SSM series satellite separation mechanisms are as follows:
Low shock
Millisecond release
Easily reset without refurbishment
Redundant, resettable SMA triggers
Near simultaneous release of four hold-down points
Low mass
Space-qualified parts and materials
Fly-away part designed for minimum weight and interference
Electrical compatibility with pyro-activation circuits
Redundant switches are incorporated for simple control

1 The thread of the separation nut used;
2 Shock emission dependent of Preload level and support structure;
3 Release time is dependent on actuation current and surrounding temperature;
4 Single separation nut's bridge wire resistance.
