Link-easy Aerospace’s SBN series separation nut is a quite simple and effective hold down and release mechanism actuated by Nitinol shape memory alloy (SMA) wires. The separation nut offers both high load capability (1~35KN) and fast actuation time (~50ms).
Our separation nut uses segmented nuts with redundant SMA wires as triggers. The SMA trigger allows for a fast response with very low release shock. Redundant switches are incorporated into the device to give “ON” or “OFF” signals when the separation nut is released or armed, simplifying ground operations and flight mission requirements. A swivel mechanism is integrated into the separation nut which enables it to rotate up to ±2°within the mounting enclosure, promising a large tolerance for angular misalignment. The separation nuts are supplied with two mechanical interfaces: standard top mount (SBN-STD) and Bottom Mount (SBN-BM).
Key features of SBN series separation nuts are as follows:
Low shock
Millisecond release
Easily reset without refurbishment
Redundant, resettable SMA triggers
Near simultaneous release of multiple hold-down points
Low mass •Space-qualified parts and materials
Custom configurations available under request
Electrical compatibility with pyro-activation circuits
Redundant switches are incorporated for simple control
1 Ultimate load is the maximum load that the separation nut can hold and release, which is 1.8 times of nominal release load;
2 Proof load is 1.2 times of nominal release load;
3 Shock emission dependent of Preload level and support structure;
4 Release time is dependent on actuation current and surrounding temperature;
5 Mass includes 4X0.3m lead wires (AWG 26#).
